January 2006

As the leaves fall, and the burning smell of autumn breeze flusters through the air. I remember a dreary and cold October day. It was the day I received news that impacted me for a long time, if not for the rest of my life. I found out a man of great character and reputation passed away. He was my partner, my inspiration, and most importantly my friend. In fact, I feel at liberty to say a man who played a part helping in the making of so many dreams...including mine. James Helkowski passed away on the 8 th day of October 2005. He was a man with focus, pure determination to hold onto that tiny spark of immortality in the world of independent comics. As I look back at his goals and accomplishments, I can truly see why he was who he was. I only hope through his passing so many others, including myself can use his inspiration to strive for what we believe in. So at this time I just want to thank you “Mean One!” Thanks for the laughs man, the hopes, and the pure ass-kickin’ artwork you have thrown out to us all! As much as this kills me from the inside, its through your work and memories, you shall continue to live on forever! For it is written, so it shall come to pass, ye shall NEVER be forgotten! Hail Helkowski! Hail Mean Studios! You are free!
